My wife and I recently flew down to Texas to visit my grandparents. We stayed for a few days and had a great time. The weather was “cold†and windy the first day (tropical compared to Indiana and Michigan) but then it warmed up for the rest of our stay.Â
Our home base was Rancho Viejo where we spent most of our nights. We also stayed on South Padre Island for a night at a bed and breakfast called The Brown Pelican. We walked on the beach, took a tour of Sea Turtle Inc., ate a couple meals at the Radisson restaurant, and saw some wildlife at the Convention Center.
We took a trip across the border and explored Matamoras, Mexico for a day. We ate lunch and bought a couple souvenirs and took a tour of the city. We were going to walk through the art museum but it was closed. We looked at some of the interesting sculptures around town to make up for it.
I got to take a private tour of the Atascosa Wildlife Refuge which was interesting. We also did a little shopping in Brownsville. My grandparents kept us well stocked with oranges and grapefruits. One of the best parts was laying out in the sun and thinking of all the people back in Michigan and Indiana fighting snow and subzero temperatures. I continued to work on my photography skills during the trip. To see more pictures go here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fuzzy247
