Well, we finally did it. My wife and I are living in our very own house. No more undersized apartment for us! It all started a long time ago when we started dreaming of more room to put our junk…Â
We decided that we wanted our (future) kids to go to school where my wife teaches even though it would make my drive a little longer. We started looking at houses on remax.com and then we found an agent using my wife’s teacher connections. The 2nd house that I had added to my favorite list on the website was the 5th or 6th house that we actually went and looked at. We both really liked it. It had all of our major requirements plus a few bonus features. So we decided to make an offer. They didn’t come down as much as we hoped but we still got a deal that was in our price range. We finally got it all worked out and had some inspections done. While all this was going on we were furiously packing everything in our apartment into boxes and making trips to both our parents house to pack all the junk that they had been keeping for us. The closing date was Thursday, March 29th. We signed about a 6 inch stack of papers and got the keys and went to see our new home. We weren’t impressed with the way our “new” house was left. But I guess it might have sold sooner if they would have really cleaned and touched up a few of the walls. My wife was insistent on painting about 90% of the walls. We had some friends help us with that so it didn’t take to long. I put my sculpture experience to good use patching holes in the walls. Friday we had some more people over. We finished painting and started cleaning. We also moved some stuff from our apartment to the house. Saturday was the big moving day. Our families came down and brought with them about 5 trucks and all the stuff that we were storing at their houses and some furniture that they were giving us. We unloaded that and then moved all the stuff from our apartment to the house. While this was going on some of the ladies spent thier time cleaning the house from top to bottom and cooking lunch. It was nice having everyone there together and it was really nice having so much help. The timing of our house buying adventure couldn’t have been better. We closed the deal at the end of the month, we moved out of our apartment on the last day of April so we didn’t have to pay rent for May, and then we had all of Spring Break to unpack our stuff and learn about our house. We’ve had about 3 full weeks in our new place so we are starting to get everything figured out. Check out the other post that tells more about the house.
