It’s the end of an era. And also a sad day. Apparently I won’t be selling pottery at the Stone Soup Emporium.
My wife went in yesterday to pay the rent for this month’s shelf space and found out that it was the last day of business. I guess something came up with the building owners so the owners of Stone Soup and Bonnie and Clyde’s Soda Fountain are scrambling to get everything out by Thursday.
Stone Soup was a local Bristol business which sold art, handmade goods and antiques. I started renting a shelf there back in December, 2011. I think I sold at least one piece every month. Often not enough to cover the monthly rental fee but some months were really good and made up for the losses. I’ll have to check my records to see what the final balance was.
We went to Bristol today and I packed up what was left of my pots. The good news: everything fit in one plastic tub! Which means I sold a lot of stuff.
It turns out that when people heard that Stone Soup was moving out they came in to buy some pottery before it was too late. I made enough in the past two months to cover about 5 months worth of shelf space rental! That doesn’t even count the past few days which also had a number of pottery sales.
So now I’m looking for another place to sell some pottery. I guess it’s possible that “the Emporium” might relocate. But I suppose I should look at more marketing and selling opportunities anyway. Maybe this will be my next big research project.
Thanks for the opportunity Stone Soup Emporium!
