Photos from the Last Kiln Load

I guess it’s about time to upload some pictures of pots from the last kiln load since the kiln is currently cooling with a fresh load of pots. All are Warm Brown Stoneware, wheel thrown and fired to cone 6 on June 23rd. The decal pots were put through the next bisque fire after the decals were applied.

There are some more pots that I didn’t feel were outstanding enough to take a photo or didn’t make the cut while editing the images. A couple more white decals pieces, a blue berry bowl, a couple more mugs, more PBL mugs, and a few other experimental pieces.

Here is my favorite piece from this load. I love the form. It probably could have been a little wider… maybe next time. I like the glaze results as well. I poured the light brown glaze over everything and then squirted the licorice glaze to make the streaks. I had one issue though. My lack of lid skills left the lid flange (the part that goes down into the pot) slightly wider than where it meets the lid instead of more narrow like it should have been. So when it was fired the rim of the pot shrunk a little bit more than the lid flange and the lid wouldn’t come off. It wasn’t stuck, I could spin the lid around on the pot. So I got some valve grinding compound and after some spinning and grinding, I finally got the lid off. And now it fits super smoothly with the pot.
