Last week the 5th Grade XC season finally came to an end. It seems that whatever is in the water being consumed by the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade team at West Noble is also being guzzled down by the 5th grade girls as well. Though the 5th grade season strangely outlasted the Middle School season by a few weeks, the results were equally impressive. The girls team finished strong by winning the Ft. Wayne finals race held at Lakeside Middle School and placed 2 girls in the top 5.
Here are a few pictures of the winning team.
My lawyer strongly cautioned me against using full names of young people on the internet so the nicknames of the athletes pictured:Â Speedy, Muscles, Smiley, L-train, Staples, The Quiet One, and Pajama Girl.
The course was more like a wet sponge than a good place to run. My feet were soaked just from walking the course. But our runners were determined and each gave a great effort. I’m sure most of the credit goes to my brilliant coaching. Or maybe not… In fact, the top runner for our girls team was a 4th Grader who did not recieve one minute of coaching from me the entire season. (Maybe she will run next year?) As noted in another post, 10 W.N. runners qualified for the Finals race. Our lone 5th grade boy finished 28th in the boy’s race. Our only 4th grade competitor of the day lead the team with a 3rd place finish overall. The rest of the runners finished 5th, 11th, 20th, 21st, 23rd, and 27th. Our team score (for those unfamiliar with XC scoring or simple addition) came to 60 points. The next closest team was 92 and 3rd place was over 100. So we won convincingly… I hope this is an accurate forecast for the future middle school and high school teams.
