As I keep telling my wife, it looks like I’m becoming famous!
All kidding aside, I was interviewed twice in February.
International Podcast
The first was for a little podcast called the Potters Cast. If you’re a potter, you’ve probably heard of it. Paul Blais contacted me early this year and asked if I would be a guest on his show.
I decided to do it even though it was far from my comfort zone. I’m not a fan of public speaking, especially if it is being recorded for all eternity. But I guess I won’t get any better unless I practice… I’ll write more about it when the interview goes live which should be sometime in April.
Local Newspaper
At the end of February I was also interviewed by Amanda Wilkinson of a local news service called The Elkhart Truth. She is relatively new to the area and has started a column highlighting interesting people in Elkhart county. Steve Gruber of the Elkhart Artwalk, Art Sense, Arts on Main, etc. had given her my name. I believe I met Steve during the Michiana Pottery Tour last year.
Amanda came to my house on the 25th. I showed her my clay studio in the basement and she took some photos and I told her a little about my work. Then we sat down at the kitchen table and talked for 15 or 20 minutes. I was a lot less nervous for this interview, probably because it didn’t have a “live” feel to it so I wasn’t worried about messing up.
Amanda was really nice and asked some good questions. We talked about how I started making pottery, my family, teaching and the community of potters in the area. I’m looking forward seeing what makes it into the article. The article was scheduled to be released tomorrow, March 7th.
If you have any questions about these interviews or my work I would love to hear from you! Contact me here.
