I had an opportunity to be a part of the Michiana Pottery Tour this year. It took place on September 27th and 28th. I set up with 5 other potters in Goshen, the third stop on the map. We were located at Northern Indiana Pottery Supply, owned by Moey Hart.
I hauled my booth over Friday evening and set up my tent, tables and shelves. When I returned home my wife helped me finish price everything and pack up all the pots. Saturday I drove all the pots over and set them up and got ready to go. We set up our booths under two rows of big trees right beside the pond. It was a great environment.
Apparently I took a couple months off from the blog. But now I should have enough content ideas to keep me posting regularly for a while. You can also see my latest activities on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Google+. Anyway, on with the post!
What would your dream weekend look like? A while (months!) ago I experienced something that was pretty darn close for a serious hobbyist potter (like myself at this point). To any full time potter it was probably just another day at the office but for me it was something that I look forward to in the future if I ever go “full time” clay.
On Friday (May 2nd) after school I stopped at the Rothshank wood kiln and found Troy Bungart and Moey Hart on duty. They were trying to get the back chamber temperature up. I sat and chatted with them for a few hours.
It took me a while to get back into the studio after Christmas break. I took some time to work on other projects, shovel snow and then I finally got everything organized and put back after the Clay Camp at WNP.
I spent some of our winter-vortex-apocalypse snow days in January and February at the wheel throwing. If you’re on Instagram you may have been following along (@artbyfuzzy). The kiln is currently cooling after a bisque fire so I should be ready to glaze in the next day or two.
I’m in.
Somehow I managed to get a pair of cups into a national(!) juried show:
According to the Local Facebook page, there are over 30 artists from all over the nation that will have work in the show. Find out more about The Local here.
The opening is November 1st during the monthly First Friday celebration in Goshen. The theme for November is the Goshen Arts Tour. And I’ll be part of it!
If you can come to the opening reception I’ll see you there. If not, the show runs until December 2nd. I think the Local is open every Saturday.
Here’s a sneak peek of my two cups that were accepted:
Now I have to go figure out what I’m going to wear!
